Round 12 of the BCA Travellers series brought 16 competitors with 6 races scheduled for the weekend to Mengeham Rye Sailing Club.  The racing area was on the west side of Hayling Island with a good N/E Force 3.

Race 1 started prematurely but in order to maintain clean starts the black flag was flown.  The local boys Dan Tylor and Peter Barr showed the rest of the fleet the way to the windward mark and Dan maintained his lead to the end.

Race 2, and due to the windward mark being close to inshore it became a bit of a lottery but Dan Taylor excelled on the reaches to maintain a 2nd win.

Race 3 and the wind had eased, Dan Taylor was first the windward mark closely followed by Richard Gimmler, who took 1st place going down the run for the final leg.

Sunday dawned slightly overcast with not a breath of air at 8 am.  As we left the Club the wind built to a pleasant NW 3-4.  Race 4 with a swell of about 4 foot made for some exciting reaching especially on the 2nd leg to the leeward mark leading to a close finish between Martin Jones, Dan Taylor and Carl Tagoe at the leeward mark with about 4 boat lengths between 1st and 3rd.  Martin's kicker came adrift on tacking through a wave which cost him 1st place and Dan took the honours with Martin just beating Carl by a boat length.

Race 5 and as the wind and waves increased Richard Gimmler's gooseneck broke on the windward leg forcing him to retire.  Richard Buttner led the race but at the leeward marked he carried on too far to the right losing 1st place to Carl Tagoe, followed closely by Dan Taylor.  The racing was now being sailed at a conservative level to ensure final positions were held to the finish with fantastic surfing conditions all the way

Race 6 was abandoned due to the Race Officer's discretion !
