Join the British Contender Association!

The Contender has survived and thrived for the last 40 years because it has benefited from an enthusiastic and dedicated class association.

The BCA and its international counterpart, the International Contender Association, are entirely voluntarily run members' organisations, and the only resources we have to look after the class and its interests comes from the annual membership subscriptions.

Without the support of all UK Contender sailors, the BCA will not be able to support, develop, or promote the class in the manner it deserves.

So if you own or sail a Contender, join us and help us represent YOU!

Which sailmakers are popular within the class?

Which sailmakers are popular within the class?

Sails for a Contender may be bought from any loft. However with Wavelength's domination of many regattas and open meetings over the last few years, including Andrea Bonezzi 8 World championship wins using a standard Wavelength Dacron sail, sails from the Wavelength loft are probably the most numerous within the fleet.

Graham Scott from Wavelength has also developed a Laminate sail design and this is now proving a promising alternative from his loft.

North Sail were popular in the early 1990s and, following a period of development with Tim Holden over the last couple of seasons, have now re-entered the market with a new radial cut sail built using the low stretch aramid Kevlar (the CM-3). This sail appears to perform well in most conditions and was used to win both the 2005 UK Nationals and Inland Championships.
