Join the British Contender Association!

The Contender has survived and thrived for the last 40 years because it has benefited from an enthusiastic and dedicated class association.

The BCA and its international counterpart, the International Contender Association, are entirely voluntarily run members' organisations, and the only resources we have to look after the class and its interests comes from the annual membership subscriptions.

Without the support of all UK Contender sailors, the BCA will not be able to support, develop, or promote the class in the manner it deserves.

So if you own or sail a Contender, join us and help us represent YOU!

Hooked On Contenders

"Hooked On" Contenders

Ever sailed, owned or been interested in the Contender class? One man that can certainly be found guilty of taking pleasure in anything Contender oriented is writer and sailor, Dougal Henshall.

Dougal has recently published a book on the class. The aptly named "Hooked on" covers the history of the boat, class, clubs and people that have given rise to the modern Contender.

As a club cited as influential within the UK's Contender scene, Dougal is providing a talk on the subject at Weston Sailing Club (Southampton) on Saturday 20th February. Weston SC will also welcome all Contender sailors that bring their boats along for the day to join club racing prior to the evenings talk.

Open to all comers, the event is free of charge. Racing will begin at 12:30 and the talk at 7:30pm, the bar of course will be open. Those interested in attending are requested to email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to register.
