The Contender fleet arrived at Filey Sailing Club on the 8th and 9th July for Round 6 of the Travellers Trophy to be greeted by a force two south westerly breeze.

The open was part of the annual Filey Regatta, this year topping out at 175 boats, of which the Contender fleet supplied 11 boats - a great event if you've never done it !!

Race 1 - With the committee boat end of the line, being favoured, the proceedings got underway . Tim Holden took an early lead. At the Leeward mark second placed Ed Presley suffered from minor gear failure letting the chasing pack through. Tim Holden went on to win with Roger White second and Bill Hooten third.

Race 2 - Roger White made a good start and was first to round the windward mark. He was overhauled by Tim Holden who went on to win. Roger White and Bill Hooten traded places a few times with Roger White coming out on top of the duel and Bill Hooten finishing third.

Race 3 – began with the best breeze of the day. Gains were made by making use of the large shifts going up the beat. First onto the reach was Tim Holden. Second placed, Roger White elected to go low which paid off. On the last lap the wind died, Roger White held on to win with Tim Holden second and Ed Presley third. A painfully slow battle ensued for fourth place with only a few seconds splitting the next six places.

Race 4 - Sunday dawned with a fresh breeze from the south. Tim Holden led from start to finish with Bill Hooten in hot pursuit finishing second. Neil Ferguson worked his way through the fleet for a well deserved third. This race will be remembered for its delightful off-wind legs.
