  1. Date, Venue and Organising Authority
The 2008 European Contender Championship regatta will be held in Punta Ala from May 31st to June 7th 2008. The Organising Authority for this championship is the International Contender Association (ICA) in association with the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) and the Sailing Club Circolo Velico Cala Civette Loc. Torre Civette Scarlino (GR).  
  1. Rules
The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. No national authority prescriptions will apply. The Equipment Rules will apply. If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence. 
  1. Eligibility and Entry
The Regatta is open to boats of the International Contender class that meet requirements of Appendix 2 of the RRS that have paid their Contender association subscription fee for 2008 and the regatta entry fee and gave submitted the completed entry and declaration form.Entries shall be made on the official entry form or through the e.mail form on the Organising Authority website only (www.campingpuntala.it) . Fully completed entry forms should be received at the entry address no later than April 15th 2008.  
  1. Entry Fees
For entry fees €. 200,00 if prior to  April 15th 2008.Entries received after the above date, entry fee is as follow:  €. 250,00.Entry fees for Junior Helms under age 21 on May 31st 2008 are €. 150,00 if prior to April 15th 2008, if entries are received after the above date, entry fee for Junior is €. 200,00.The above mentioned fees are to be paid only in Euros. Along with the Entry fee Payment form please include Sail Number and Helmsman surname.  
  1. Qualifying series and final series
If there are more than 80 entrants the regatta will consist of a qualifying series and final series.

Ten races are scheduled. With 5 races sailed the European Championship will be valid. Rescheduling races may be made at the discretion of the Race Committee.Races not completed as scheduled may be sailed at a later time or day during the championship.However not more than three races per day will be scheduled. The warning signal of the 1st race of the day will be at 13:00. Any change to the start time if different than the schedule will be posted on the Club House Notice Board by 20:00 of the preceding day.The Social Event program will be available at on-site registration secretariat. 
  1. Measurements
Each boat shall produce a valid measurement certificate. In addition the following measurements will be taken: measurement of sail and boom markings, hull weight, measurement and weight of rudder, centreboard and mast. Measurement checks and inspections may be carried out at any time during the event. A boat notified of inspection shall follow the instructions of the Race Committee. 
  1. Sailing Instructions
The sailing instructions will be available after 9:00 on May 31st at the Regatta Office. 
  1. Venue
Attachment 1 shows the location of the regatta harbour and racing area. 
  1. The courses
The courses to be sailed will be as follows:Triangle Courses with angles of 60-30 degrees.Length of courses will be adapted according to wind strength in order to have an expected race duration of about sixty minutes for the leading boat. 
  1. Penalties
RRS Appendix N, Immediate Penalties for Breaking Rule 42 – Propulsion will apply.PUMPING FLAG:When flag Q is displayed at or before the warning signal from the starting vessel, this indicates that RRS 42.2 (a), (b) and (c) will not apply to this race. When flag F is displayed together with notifying sound signals from a race committee vessel near a mark, this indicates that RRS 42 again applies in full to competitors after rounding the mark where the signal is made. 
  1. Scoring System
The Low Point scoring system of RRS Appendix A will apply.With 5 races sailed there will be 1 discard, with 9 or 10 races sailed there will be 2 discards. 
  1. Jury
An International Jury will be appointed for the European Championship in accordance with RRS 70.4 and Appendix M. When such a jury is appointed, the decisions of the jury will be final. 
  1. Buoyancy
Changing Rule 27.1: all competitors shall wear personal flotation decides at all times when afloat, which are in good condition and in accordance with the specifications issued or approved by a national authority affiliated to the ISAF, or a standards organisation, or certification authority, recognised for the purpose by its respective government. Attention is drawn to RRS Fundamental Rule 1.2. 
  1. Support Boats
Coaches, Team leaders and representatives from participating nations shall be registered at the Regatta Office before the first racing day.Support boats shall fly theirs national flag or a flag with their three national letters clearly, or shall be permanently marked with a sticker of their national flag or of their three national letters on each side of the boat. 
  1. Berthing
Boats shall be kept in their assigned places in the boat area. 
  1. Radio Communication
A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. 
  1. Prizes
The winner will obtain the title “2008 European Contender Class Championship”. The first, second and third placed helmsman will obtain a “gold”, “silver” and “bronze” cup. Prized will be also be awarded to the 1st Junior (under 21), Master (46-50 years), Grand Master (over 50) and 1st Female. 
  1. Entry disclaimer
It is the competitor’s decision to enter the championships or to start and continue in any race. Competitors shall accept that their participation in the championship is at their exclusive risk in every respect. See RRS Rule 4, Decision to Race. The Organizing Authority and the respective Host Sailing Club, their officers, members, servants and agents accept no responsibility in respect of loss of life, personal injury or loss or damage to property which may be sustained by reason of their participation or intended participation in the championship or howsoever arising in connection with the championship. 
  1. Insurance
All boats competing in the European Contender Championship 2008 shall have third party insurance cover of not less than €. 1.000.000,00 or equivalent thereof in any other currency for any accident.All owners/competitors who sighs the Entry Form are deemed to have made a declaration that they hold such cover. All owners/competitors shall produce a copy of their insurance when subscribing. 
  1. Amendments
Any amendments to this Notice of Race will be posted on the Notice Board of the Sailing Club Circolo Velico Cala Civette.
