Scott on a hat-trick - next up the Nationals !! Porthpean SC hosted Round 3 of the contender travellers trophy. A high quality fleet of 18 boats battled it out in relatively light winds, force 2-3, and sunshine. Saturday provided the best of the conditions enabling the fleet to trapeze most of the way round the course.
There were the occasional shifts to defy the front runners as Ben Holden discovered, however Scott set out his stall early and eased his way to the front in Race 1 to win ahead of Langdown and Bray. Race 2 was won once Aston had slipped past Tim Holden and Ross to build a healthy lead – another lap though and Scott’s recovery to second may have been improved on. Tim consolidated third and the fast improving ex-laser sailor Orton a credible fourth. Sunday dawned gloriously sunny but with less wind. Race 3 and the lightwind specialist Rodger White forged into a commanding lead he never relinquished. Chased hard by Scott and Langdown, White lead from start to finish. International Contender Coach Mussell sailed a smart last beat to pip Bray for fourth. The final race was academic as Scott had secured the event overall but Langdown was out to cement second, with another three way tussle for third. Bray led followed by Aston with Langdown hot on their heals and a nice gap to fourth. Aston got the second beat wrong losing ground and allowing Scott to inch closer. White and Ben were nip and tuck for fifth. Langdown eventually held off Bray, whilst Scott passed Aston but crucially Ben pipped White to fifth. Thanks go to all at Porthpean SC for another splendid event.
