Sunshine and a light easterly breeze greeted the 32 competitors for the Weston open. Racing got under way at 1100 hours sharp, with the first start being general recalled.

This was much to the relief of the half the fleet who were still making their way to the racing area. The second start saw the fleet away with Simon Mussell (bionic ankle and all) showing that his 6 month lay off had done him a power of good, as he took an early lead from Gary Langdown and Keith Paul. He showed great speed in the light breeze to take the victory from Langdown and Paul proving that a 100 kg of body weight is no disadvantage in this class.

Race 2 saw an increasing breeze with the in form Langdown taking an early lead. Stacey Bray managed to sneak through on the next shifty beat to lead going down the final run. Bray managed to stuff his tiller through his mainsheet allowing Langdown to sail inside him on the bottom mark, gifting him a win. Matt Aston, Mussell, Dave Davies and fast improving Phil Dickinson battled for 3rd with Aston taking it from Mussell.

Race 3 was held in a solid trapezing breeze that suited Davies and Bernard Shapley. These two pulled away from the fleet with the following group of Aston, Langdown, Bray and Mussell chasing hard. The next run saw the wind gusting from behind allowing the group to catch the leaders. Davies and Shapley held on to the finish with Aston taking 3rd from Mussell and Bray, after Langdown rolled in to windward on the bottom mark, eventually coming in 10th.

Day 2 race 4, beautiful sunshine and a light patchy easterly. Mussell was keen to prove that his overnight lead was no fluke, and proved that when he tactfully sailed the beat to leave Langdown, Aston and many floundering around on the left hand side of the course. Bray led at the top mark from Mussell, Paul and Martin Metcalfe in the now filling breeze. Mussell overhauled Bray on the next upwind leg, with Metcalfe managing to break out of the pack and finish third from Paul and Pete Dives.

Race 5 and as on the previous day the easterly breeze progressively built offering some great trapezing conditions. Aston and Langdown were keen to put some pressure on Mussell after disappointing results in the previous race. Aston led from Langdown, Dives, and Paul, but the consistent Mussell was not easing up on the pressure, moving to third on the run, right on the heels of Langdown and Aston. Aston got the better of them both, and took the win from Langdown and Mussell, with Dives and Paul closely behind. Mussell now had the regatta in the bag, but second was up for grabs with Bray, Langdown, Aston, Paul, Dives and Davies all hopeful.

Race 6 saw the relaxed Mussell sail comfortably to the front of the fleet with The Master Paul in close contention. No one was taking away Mussell's glory and he convincingly sailed away from Paul to take his third win, with Davies, Langdown and Shapley following them in.

Thanks to Weston and the RO for doing great job in turning the racing around very quickly so every one was off of the water promptly for the drive home.
